The Hero of Ages

By Brandon Sanderson

Hero of Ages largely felt like a slog. In true Sanderson fashion I struggled to get pulled into the book for most of it, and then the last 100 pages were a sprint of action. But they were a sprint of action to an ending that was sugary sweet and extremely unsatisfying, and I walk away from this trilogy with zero desire to read more from this author.

I enjoyed a lot of the lore we got over the course of this book (the kandra are objectively cool), though the twin powers of Ruin and Preservation (with humanity, of course, being better than both of them) felt quite trite compared to the rest of Sanderson’s interesting world-building. I remain convinced that what Sanderson really ought to write is a series of large interlocking Wikipedia pages for his creations.
